I have used a MasterCard for overseas travel and had great trouble contacting them particularly on a boat. Their call centre was in the U.K. And most of my money was used to contact them. Never again.

Ive just come back from overseas and used the Travelex Money Card while I was away. We organised it at the airport before we left. I found it really easy to load, exchange currencies between the different countries we travelled, and will use it again when I travel overseas next. I did find it quite expensive though to withdraw cash via an atm. In Thailand, it was the equivalent of $8 AUD each time.

I'm not sure you should blame MasterCard exactly... you should blame whatever bank you got the card through. As far as I can tell MasterCard and Visa are basically the same.
