Gary, it is not the $14.50. The Australian site is pathetic when compared to .com. Amazon has been trying to get Aussie customers to migrate for years and the GST is just a convenient excuse. Secondly. Ebook bargains are only available via the .com and U.K. sites. Fortunately, there are simpler ways to get around it than those described by you, the simplest being to use US$ denominated gift cards when buying.

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.

Fully agree with Peter.
Very few Australian retails provide the level of service or range of products that you can get from O/S websites. I often buy products and e-services from these sites and will probably continue to do so.

PS delivery times from O/S are often quicker than from Aust no matter the delivery company. I can't work out why - other than Aust retailers really haven't got their act together. (And I'm not just talking about from big retailers)

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.

Hi Peter

Thank you for that advice. Does your suggestion of using US$ gift cards only apply to ebooks or the like? Would you be able to briefly describe the process?
Cheers Sue

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.

No, Sue, but I shouldn't make myself out so smart. I was moaning to my youngest son about losing amazon.com and he said, "Dad, it's so simple to get around," and hence the gift card. He's already done it and he doesn't buy books. I'm waiting for him to set me up. Not that smart at all :-).

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.
