Don't forget that there were also some renters who looked at the "non-eviction" clause and thought that meant they didn't have to pay any rent ! The landlords in those cases were stuck being painted as 'the baddie' and couldn't do anything about it.

The whole thing should never have been introduced. Landlords don't particularly want to evict tenants (unless they are shockingly bad) because "some rent" is better than "no rent" and a house that is not tenanted is also a target for getting trashed. The market can take care of itself.

All this government interference without the proper checks and balances is open to rort, just like the blanket JobKeeper (where you can do nothing and earn more before going back to work, assuming the business is even a going concern anymore, but no one checked this, did they ?) - someone STILL has to pay for it and it's the landlord or the taxpayer, respectively But I never saw "TenantKeeper" for those of us who had lost rent during this time ?!

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.
