I've been living in Sydney and saving my deposit for over 5 years. I have never felt that any of the schemes in my time were useful for Sydney residents. Perhaps that is the point, to push them to move to regional areas to make way for cashed up and highly skilled migrants.

I had planned to buy an established home in Brisbane and finally got enough for a deposit but the housing boom means there is limited stock caused by the home builder grant taking up all available land so more people are buying established homes. At the same time I'm in lockdown for another month, even if I buy a place sight unseen I would need to pay to go into hotel quarantine when I arrive.

For me I feel like government policy keeps moving the goal posts of buying my first home further and further away.

Reply to article

For original story, Click Here.
