I would take the 14 thou and invest that. I would put the other away safely. I'm pretty risk averse though. :)

Surely there is a more middle ground than a dumbell of 100% risk on and 100% risk off. Bank hybrids? A listed lender to corporate debt (MXT)? Corporate bond market given she does have a marketable sum, or via listed corporate bonds.
