<p><p>As I approach retirement I regret not making a bigger deal out of this very issue. I would go to work on strong pain medication in a safety related field in a male dominated industry. I was reluctant to even mention it, let alone make a stand about it, for fear of being labelled weak or worse, dismissed.</p>

<p><p>I agree that this is a real issue, but the problem is that it is far too ripe for people to go and exploit it, just like any other type of sick leave.
