Money reveals the Best-Value Car Insurance for 2022

Budget Direct has won this award for many years now, so it is certainly not resting on its laurels.

And according to Rainmaker head of research Alex Dunnin, the market is remarkably price competitive.

"While Budget Direct is recognised as offering sharply priced insurance, other insurers are catching up," he says.

"The gap between the leaders is getting narrow, forcing insurers to focus on customer service, providing a great website with online account access and apps. Budget Direct's ability to get customer engagement through reviews and feedback is second to none.

"But Suncorp, with its subsidiary AAMI, is coming after them. This puts even more pressure on insurers to have a great website with really easy-to-use comparators."

According to Jonathan Kerr, chief growth officer at underwriter Auto & General, Budget Direct's success can be attributed to the focus the company has on the fair exchange of value in making sure it offers a really full insurance at a reasonable price.

Suncorp and AAMI are new to the top five this year, which confirms how competitive this market is.
