Best of the Best 2025: Best-Value Online Share Broker
By Money Team
Superhero has been named Money's Best-Value Online Share Broker as part of the Best of the Best awards.
Online broker and superannuation fund - Superhero, has a trophy cabinet packed with Money awards, having taken out Best Value Online Share broker for four straight years.
A wafer-thin brokerage of $2 applies for trades up to $20,000. But as Superhero co-founder and chief executive John Winters, points out, two bucks buys a lot more than share trades.
"Our focus is on delivering value," says Winters. "Superhero has won this award in years when we weren't the cheapest online broker but we provided our customers with the greatest value."
Buying shares can involve just a few keystrokes, but investment success calls for something more. The Superhero team recognises this, and this is where the broker is delivering extra value.
"Some of our investors know what they want, and only want to place a trade," says Winters. "Others are new to investing, and we are bringing them contextual education on features such as limit orders or stop loss orders as part of the trading process."
For seasoned investors with an appetite for the latest market research, Winters says Superhero is harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to summarise market events in real time.
According to Winters, Superhero customers span a variety of age groups. While the average age is around 37-38 years, different age groups are taking various pathways to build a diverse portfolio.
"We are seeing a lot of Gen Z investors start their journey in wealth creation using exchange traded funds," says Winters.
"Baby Boomers on the other hand tend to be more focused on directly held equities."
Part of the appeal of Superhero is that $2 trades don't just apply to Aussie shares listed on the ASX. That same $2 brokerage applies to investing in US shares.
Better still, Superhero offers fractional investing across some of the higher priced US shares. This means you don't have to trade whole shares. Instead, you can specify a dollar amount you wish to trade and purchase a fraction of a share.
So, if you don't have the cash to buy one whole share in, say, Warren Buffett's company Berkshire Hathaway (which could set you back a tidy $US687,000 - about $1.036 million), it's still possible to get a slice of the action through a fraction of a share - as much as your investment can purchase.
Superhero also makes tax time a breeze, with comprehensive portfolio reporting that itemises dividends, franking credits and unrealised as well as realised gains.
