Aware Super has been named Money's Ultra Long-Term Performance Super Fund as part of the Best of the Best awards.

Aware Super has been named Money's Ultra Long-Term Performance Super Fund as part of the Best of the Best awards.

For the second year in a row Aware Super has won the Ultra Long-Term Performance award for its Employer Sponsored high-growth option.

"Our investment approach in our MySuper Lifecycle approach, of which the Employer Sponsored high-growth option is a part, is a great example of how we stand out and deliver ultra long-term performance," says Damian Graham, Aware Super's chief investment officer.

Actively managing the level of investment risk for members as they age is key to this approach.

"At Aware Super, we understand that delivering strong long-term returns requires a different investment mix for younger members compared to those approaching retirement. This informs our innovative lifecycle approach," says Graham.

"For our younger members, we have a higher allocation to growth assets to help grow their savings in these earlier years, and then gradually shift their investment mix to a more balanced profile as they near and enter retirement.

Aware Super manages money differently across the various asset classes once members reach retirement.

"This helps to protect the savings members have worked hard to build. It also manages longevity risk, which is critical when considering performance over the long-term horizon of super," he says.

"Strong investment performance is key, but so is getting great help from your super fund and advice on your retirement goals, particularly in critical periods such as the pre-retirement years."

Graham says diversification "has been a pivotal factor" in the fund's results over the longer term and "speaks to Aware Super's strong investment credentials across asset classes and geographies".
