If you are thinking of installing a solar or heat-pump hot water system don't forget the federal government might be able to chip in.

Under the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme - Solar Hot Water Rebate (REBS), eligible households can claim a rebate of $1000 for a solar hot water system or $600 for a heat-pump hot water system.

To be eligible for the REBS:

You can only apply after the system is installed, attaching a copy of your purchase receipts.

You have to lodge your application within 122 days of installation. Processing takes about eight weeks.
