Best of the Best 2025: Best-Value Small Car

There's still a battle at the budget end of the car market to offer buyers little cars that are big on value.
There are fewer micro and light cars these days, but buyers still have some exceptional choices - be it as a first car, a last car or a family runaround.
Our gold winner this year is the Suzuki Swift Hybrid auto, which has striking pricing for a HEV model in this part of the market. The base model version is a little basic inside and out, but for a buyer who wants a frugal, fun and functional hatchback that runs on the smell of an oily rag, it's hard to argue against it.
If you want a bit more space, the Skoda Scala Select makes immense sense. It has a huge boot, textbook interior practicality, a superbly efficient turbo engine, plus a seven-year warranty. It could be a perfect alternative to some of the big-name small cars.
But if you take 'small car' in the most literal sense, then you cannot pass up the Kia Picanto Sport auto. It might have a tiny price and a miniscule footprint, but it also comes with a long warranty and big dealership network backing. Just mind the service costs.
