Making the most of free financial seminars

One of the things I love about writing this column is that it helps me give people the tools they need to take greater control of their finances.

In early September, the Department of Human Services joined with a range of other agencies and figures to celebrate MoneySmart Week. This year it featured a strong message for women to take a more active role in their finances.

The sad truth is that women often leave financial matters to their partners and can be left to pick up the pieces if they separate, or if their partner passes away or becomes incapacitated.

Human Services provides free face-to-face information and public seminars that can help give women the skills they need to stay on top of their finances.

It holds free seminars on a range of topics that can help you better manage your money. I would encourage anyone with an interest in increasing their financial literacy to visit humanservices.gov.au/fis.

You can book a meeting with a financial information service officer or find a list of upcoming seminars in your area.
