Get a budget holiday by relocating a camper van

Every day hundreds of rented camper vans trundle around Australia as more and more of us (plus overseas visitors) check out the big country.

Many of these rentals are one-way and the rental firms want the vehicles returned to where they started.

That's where Brisbane-based imoova.com (formerly called standbycars.com) comes in with its "relocation holidays".

Imoova has access to over 30 camper van and motor home rental companies in Australia, New Zealand and the US.

Say you've just completed a holiday in the Northern Territory.

For as little as $1 a day you could, for instance, drive a two-berth camper van from Darwin back to Perth and have an interesting trip.

For example, check out the amazing aboriginal rock art near Karratha.

You're allowed six days and 4250km but you can take an extra three days to cover this long distance for $75 a day (300km a day extra included).

You get $50 worth of diesel fuel. You have to be from 21 to 75 years old and you're supposed to stick to sealed roads and not drive at night.

If you'd like to try relocating in the US with your family, an example is a five-berth van from Las Vegas to San Francisco (600 miles, or 960 kilometres, allowed) for $1 a night, with three extra days allowed at $US75 ($79) a day.

Then there's a New Zealand relocation from Christchurch to Auckland in a four-berther over four days for $5 a day (three extra days allowed at $NZ135, or $110, a day) including vehicle ferry.

See imoova.com or phone 1300 789 059. And always check the fineprint conditions, which might differ for each relocation.
