Don't miss out on the schoolkids bonus

Make sure you check or update your child's education details with the Department of Human Services so that you don't miss out on the second instalment of the schoolkids bonus, which replaced the education tax refund.

You should let the Department of Human Services know if you had a child starting primary or secondary school.

You should also tell them if they are finishing secondary study. It recommends you use Centrelink Online Services to update those details.

To be eligible you have to be a parent or carer receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A for a dependent child in primary or secondary education, or a primary or secondary student turning 19 years or younger in the calendar year who receives certain government payments such as Youth Allowance.

The payment - up to $205 for each primary student and up to $410 for each secondary student - will be made to eligible families from July 4 to July 17.

If you receive Family Tax Benefit as a lump sum, the schoolkids bonus will be paid after your Family Tax Benefit claim is assessed.
